BALMORHEA- Much of the Basin saw some much needed rain last weekend but one town was damaged by the storm.

"We just stared seeing leaves and branches everywhere and we got up to the corner to try to come to the store and there was a tree across the road," Balmorhea resident, Suzanne Franklin, said.

Tree branches and debris covered the streets of Balmorhea after the storm over the weekend and now crews are working to hard to clean up the town.

"We're picking up branches right now and everything. What we are going to do is get the county and city and we're are all going to go together to clean up," Ike Ward, Member of the Balmorhea City Council, said.

On Saturday, 60 mile per hour winds and rain blew into the city. On top of all of the damage, many people are still without power.

"Throughout the whole town there are trees knocked down on telephone lines, power lines, cable lines. We have about 15 customers that are out in town today that we know of. We are expecting to have more calls as the day goes on," Chris Jimenez, with Mountain Zone TV Cable, said.

Thankfully no one was hurt, but many are claiming this was the worst storm since the deadly tornadoes that hit Saragosa almost 27 years ago.

"In 1987, there was a tornado that destroyed Saragosa. A lot of people got killed," Franklin said.

Crews are hoping to put all the debris in one location and move it out of town on Tuesday.
