ODESSA - A woman in Odessa, walked into the Family Dollar on West County Road, and walked out with a new iPhone. The only problem; it wasn't hers.

"It goes back to what your mom and day told you: if it's not yours, don't take it," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers, said.

It happened back in February. The victim checked out and left her phone at the stand. The woman behind her saw the victim leave the phone behind and jumped on the opportunity.

"Before she pays, she reaches down, picks up the phone and you can see her put it in her purse," Rogers said.

The rightful owner noticed and went back to the store. She talked to the manager.

"They look at the video and notice someone's picked up the phone so they call the number," she said.

The thief actually answered the phone and promised to bring it right back.

"Our victim waits for four hours at the store and our suspect never brings the phone back," Rogers explained.

Rogers said she hopes someone will recognize the crook.

"We're confident someone will recognize her. She's got a distinctive hair color and you can see her face really close," she said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Odessa Crime Stoppers at 333-TIPS.

If your tip leads to an arrest, you could receive a cash reward.
