LEA COUNTY, N.M. - The Lea County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a phone and e-mail scam that has been popping up around the state.
The scammers claim to be with the sheriff's office and that the victim has a failure to appear for their arrest.
Officials say that law enforcement agencies do not call to arrange payments for violations of any kind over the phone or through e-mail.
If you get one of the calls, you're asked to contact authorities.
