Odessa Woman in Critical Condition After Being Shot by Her Boyfriend

ODESSA - An Odessa woman remains in the hospital fighting for her life after being shot by her boyfriend late Friday night.

Police responded to the 900 block of West 23rd Street after a call came in of a gunshot victim. 23-year old Kimberly Root is at Medical Center Hospital in critical condition after being shot by her boyfriend.

Police put out an arrest warrant for the shooting. They were looking for 24 year old Eric Holguin, who was arrested a few hours later.

Holguin is behind bars on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is a first degree felony.

When NewsWest 9 posted the crime on Facebook, friends and family members wrote their thoughts.

David Garcia wrote, "My prayers are with my cousin Kimberly Root! Hang in there sweet girl, may the good Lord hear our prayers for healing and fast recovery!" 

Cousin, Tiffany Velasques, wrote, "My cousin did not deserve this under any circumstance. Kimberly Root is a beautiful, loving & compassionate mother that always kept a smile on her face. Our entire family is still in shock and upset with the situation. Please keep the prayers going everyone." 

A peaceful Odessa neighborhood hoping their friendly neighbor comes home soon.

Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, the investigation is ongoing.
