ODESSA - An Odessa church group is back home safe and sound after spending a few weeks in Ukraine.
Eight members of the First Baptist Church in Odessa went on a mission trip to Kiev.
They left on February 14 and made it back on Sunday night.
They were there to teach English as a Second Language to about 800 students.
The mission group was only about two miles away from ground zero where all the clashes were taking place.
Despite all the violence going on, pastor Byron McWilliams says being in Ukraine was all in god's hands.
"I think that's a God appointed thing. I don't think it was an accident that we were there at the time that we were there. Cause I think God knew long ago that we were going at that time and so He just opened up opportunities for ministry that we never expected,” McWilliams said.
The group has been to Ukraine on mission trips for the last 15 years.
