ODESSA – A woman has been arrested after her newborn baby tested positive for cocaine.
Odessa Police tell NewsWest 9, they were contacted by the Department of Family Protective Services in reference to a newborn baby testing positive for cocaine at Medical Center Hospital.
The mother, 30-year-old Monica Morillo Gonzalez, admitted to smoking crack cocaine while she was pregnant.
Police say Gonzalez intentionally engaged in conduct that placed the newborn baby in imminent danger of bodily injury, physical/mental impairment or death.
We’re told based on the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Gonzalez for endangering a child.
We’re told that Gonzalez was arrested on Friday and is currently behind bars at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
