ANDREWS - The City Council meeting in Andrews Thursday night was a big meeting for the town as they elected a new Mayor Pro Tem.

"Well tonight (Thursday), I'm resigning my seat as Mayor Pro Tem and it's effective at midnight. I'm resigning because I'm going for the seat of mayor and I look forward to that opportunity," Andrews Mayoral Candidate, Flora Braly, said.

Flora Braly has been serving on the Andrews City Council for 11 years now. After the recent death of former Mayor, Bob Zap, Braly believes she could continue his legacy.

"Nobody can fill Mayor Zap's shoes. We lost a great leader, a fair and honest man but he left us a good example and we can follow that example," Braly said.

If elected, Braly would become the first female mayor for Andrews but she said that's not what's what's important.

"For me, it's about service and service to the people and that's what I like to do. It's in my heart to serve Andrews and to serve it well," Braly said.

For now, Braly said Thursday night she'll be sad to go but come May she hopes she'll be returning to the council once again.

"It's kind of bitter sweet because it could be my last after serving for 11 years. But it's okay, I'm ready to accept either stepping up or having a little bit of time," Braly said.

We're told Charles Vogt has been named the new Mayor Pro Temp in Andrews.
