Bill proposed to keep sex offenders from name changes

Posted: Updated:
Oklahoma - A bill is one step closer that would place more restrictions on sex offenders in Oklahoma.

It's goal is to keep sex offenders from playing the system. The bill cleared the Oklahoma Senate Wednesday, prohibiting registered sex offenders from legally changing their names. The Senate voted 44-0 for the bill authored by Senator Kyle Loveless.

Loveless says he wrote the bill because he has learned of cases where sex offenders have changed their names so they could pass a background check and then go to work for public schools. He said his bill would take away "ways they've played the system.''

The measure how heads to the House for consideration.
