DETROIT (AP) - A sociologist testifying at Michigan's gay marriage trial says research clearly shows that children raised by same-sex parents suffer no disadvantage when compared to other kids.
Michael Rosenfeld of Stanford University is back on the witness stand Wednesday, testifying on behalf of two Detroit-area nurses seeking to overturn the 2004 Michigan constitutional amendment. Attendance by spectators is lighter on the second day of trial.
Many questions have focused on the well-being of children raised by same-sex couples. State attorneys have defended the gay-marriage ban by saying voters wanted to encourage families led by a male and a female.
In Texas, meanwhile, a federal judge said that state's gay-marriage ban is unconstitutional, although he gave officials time to appeal an injunction signed Wednesday.
