Man Arrested Following Chase in Howard County

HOWARD COUNTY - One man has been arrested following a chase in Howard County on Tuesday evening.

The Howard County Sheriff's Office tells NewsWest 9, they were dispatched to the south service road of Interstate 20 and Stallings Road around 6:15 p.m. in reference to a disturbance between two vehicles.

We're told that deputies did locate one of the vehicles and attempted to make a traffic stop but the vehicle refused to stop.

Officials say after a 15 mile chase, the vehicle crashed on Hamby Road near Highway 461 in Glasscock County. Four men got out of the vehicle and ran on foot into a pasture.

Several law enforcement agencies including the Big Spring Police Department and members of the Texas Department of Public Safety began searching the area for the suspects. We're told that the DPS Helicopter, as well as tracking dogs from Colorado City, were called in to help find the suspects.

Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday night, one of the men, 18-year-old Rigoberto Vasquez, was arrested and placed into custody.

Officials say that upon searching the vehicle, they did find two firearms and a quantity of a controlled substance.

Vasquez is facing charges of evading arrest or detention in a vehicle along with possession of a controlled substance.

Officials are also working to identify the other three suspects involved in the chase.
