HOWARD COUNTY - Howard County Commissioners decided not to buy a new radio tower at their meeting on Monday.
Instead, they'll be leasing space on the recently donated tower.
Commissioners say they've made an agreement with the Howard County Volunteer Fire Department of about $5,000 a year for tower space and utility costs.
Additional equipment will cost around $25,000. That will come out of existing FEMA grant monies.
As you may recall, one of the county's towers went down during the ice storm in November.
$30,000 was donated to purchase an existing one.
The money would cover the necessary equipment specifically for the Volunteer Fire Department.
