HOBBS, N.M. - A Hobbs man is in hot water after he choked a child during an argument with his ex-girlfriend on Monday.

48-year-old Morris Taylor is being held on charges of child abuse and battery against a household member.

Officers were called out to a home in the 1100 block of West Scharbauer around 5:30 p.m.

The victim told police Taylor grabbed her by the hair and arm and slammed her into a wall while she was holding her child during an argument.

The victim eventually made it out of the house and watched Taylor leave.

When she went back inside, her daughter told her that Taylor hurt her and made a choking gesture.

Officers caught up with Taylor at a home in the 1200 block of San Mateo.

Taylor denied ever being at the house.
