ODESSA - A group of Odessans gathered together on Friday night to spread word about euthanizing animals.

About 30 to 35 people were at the vigil at the Odessa Animal Shelter.

There was a candlelight service for a dog by the name of “Fat Boy” that was put down.

The group believes it was a mistake and they don't want it to happen to another animal.

Police tells NewsWest 9, they respect why these supporters are out here.

"We want change at Odessa Animal Control and we want to be working with them for the change. We're not getting anything done when we're clashing," Odessa resident, Lori Baker, said.

"The Odessa Police Department shares the same sadness due to the fact that there are several animals being neglected and abused," Cpl. Steve LeSueur with the Odessa Police Department, said.

Police want to remind everyone that there are plenty of pets you can adopt.

Just head out to the animal shelter and be sure to bring proper identification.
