MIDLAND - The data for Midland wrecks in 2013 is coming out soon. How does Midland Police take the data they have?

Midland Police will compile crash reports from three months at a time to get a sense of what's happening on the road. The Midland Police Department started putting their data up online in April.

"Right now, we are looking at every 90 days because we can go back to the first time we put it out and Loop 250 is always, since we started doing that, it is always in the top three," Lt. Ray Leible with the Midland Police Department, said.

NewsWest 9 took a tour of the most frequent crash sites in Midland starting with Rankin Highway at I-20 which had 19 crashes.

Lieutenant Leible says one of the biggest reasons people get in accidents is driver inattention, meaning that their not paying attention to what their doing on major highways and especially on Loop 250 where most of these accidents occur.

NewsWest 9 passed Andrews Highway and Loop 250 which had the most crashes through November.

"A lot of those are related to the service roads," Lt. Leible said.

What did NewsWest 9 see Thursday? A wreck on the service road. Speeding was another factor. We even saw several people who were driving faster than the posted speed limit.

The other three spots where just down Loop 250. Many of those crashes happened during the bad ice storm in November but NewsWest 9 encountered another weather problem going west on Loop 250.

That problem was the sun glaring into people's eyes as they traveled west on Loop 250 during rush hour.
