Teen DWI sentencing causing outrage

Posted: Updated:

Sentencing for a Texas teen who killed four people while driving drunk has sparked outrage. The 16 year-old who killed four pedestrians while driving drunk received a probation only sentence in a juvenile court.

The families of those who died are angry with the outcome.

Sixteen year-old, Ethan Couch was sentenced this week to 10 years probation for intoxication manslaughter.

The accident took place June 15th on a dark rural road near Fort Worth. Brian Jennings, 43, Breanna Mitchell, 24, Shelby Boyles, 21 and her 52-year-old mother, Hollie Boyles were all killed.

Prosecutors were asking for the maximum 20 years in state custody, but the Couch's attorneys argued for rehabilitation.

Their defense was "affluenza," stating his actions that night came from the way his parents raised him, Eric Boyles, who lost his wife and daughter, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that because Couch's family was wealthy, it helped him avoid going to jail.
