WEST ODESSA - A West Odessa volunteer firefighter has been dismissed after being accused of head-butting a deputy over the weekend.

31-year-old Ricky Tipton is facing felony charges of aggravated assault of a public servant and evading arrest.

Odessa police say that Tipton took off from a traffic stop on University Boulevard around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

A deputy spotted his truck speeding by with its emergency lights on and followed him to the West Odessa Volunteer Fire Department.

Tipton told the deputy he was on his way to a structure fire but the deputy already knew there was no fire happening at the time.

Tipton also smelled like alcohol.

Tipton was arrested and was forced inside the patrol car after resisting.

When the deputy reached down to buckle Tipton in, Tipton reportedly head butted him on the nose.

The deputy would be okay.

Tipton is behind bars on a $60,000 bond.
