ODESSA - Two men went into the 7-11 on West 8th Street to steal beer. The bandits made a big mess trying to get in, which foiled their escape.
"Two guys come through and they've taken the cover from a water meter and threw it through the window," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers, said.
Both men come through the window, but one of them quickly heads out after running into the clerk. The other man makes a beeline for the beer.
"(He) grabs two 12 packs of glass bottles of beer," she said.
The beer thief tried to make his getaway but had difficulty. He slipped and slid all over the glass he broke while breaking into the store. The man eventually lost his footing and fumbled one of the 12-packs.
