Capitol Christmas tree travels cross-country, stops in Amarillo

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - For the third straight year, an iconic piece of the U.S. Capitol around Christmas time made a stop in Amarillo.

The Capitol Christmas tree is rolling across the country before it finds its home in Washington D.C.

Saturday afternoon, folks in Amarillo had the chance to sign a giant Christmas card that's headed to the Capitol with the tree, as well as check out this year's beautiful Christmas tree that was chosen from the Colville National Forest in Washington State.

"We work out in the woods everyday, that was one of the things we were doing was looking to find the right tree," said Gayne Sears, a District Ranger. "It had to meet a basic criteria, basically a height between 60 and 80 feet, and a nice shape for the tree. We had about 20 or 40 trees that were turned in that was narrowed down to four."
