Amarillo SWAT searches for felons wanted out of New Mexico

Amarillo, TX - The Amarillo SWAT team and Amarillo police officers surrounded an Amarillo motel Saturday afternoon after receiving a tip about two wanted suspects said to be staying there.

About 11:30 Saturday morning, officers received a tip that two suspects wanted out of New Mexico were staying in a hotel in the 6000 block of Amarillo Blvd. West.

Police were unable to locate the two men there, but then checked the Astro Motel also on the Blvd and found a room they believe the suspects were staying in.

Authorities believe they fled through a window before police arrived. Police also made contact with and found marijuana on two male teens who they believed were in contact with the wanted suspects.
One male, 17-year-old Jesus Mendoza, was arrested and the other male, age 16, was released to a parent.

The suspects still at large are 24-year-old Nikko Nathan and 22-year-old Cedar Chavarria. Nathan is wanted for Aggravated Assault and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Chavarria is wanted for Harboring a Fugitive.
