MIDLAND- As any Texan knows, it takes a while to get between places in state. For Ray McCutcheon, he plans to ride across the entire state.

McCutcheon is trying to raise $100,000 for the American Diabetes Association. Texas is the second largest state in the country and the total trip is going to take more than three weeks.

NewsWest 9 found McCutcheon coming off of Business Interstate 20 and Loop 250. According to his Facebook page, he had already been riding through Odessa on Saturday morning and planned to go all the way to Midland.

McCutcheon has to travel between 50 to 60 miles a day to reach his goal in the set amount of time. McCutcheon has been riding for three years after being diagnosed with diabetes in 2008.

McCutcheon's daughter, Katie Holcomb, follows behind to make sure he is safe in traffic. With colder weather coming in, NewsWest 9 asked McCutcheon if winter was a factor.

"The last few days, it's been a little chilly in the morning. Its been down in the 30's but I like the colder better than the hot so I'm happy. I picked November because it was cooler and probably less rain," McCutcheon said.

McCutcheon's family said it has taken about six months to plan this journey. So far, McCutcheon hasn't had to change his tires. He is about a third of the way done and says his trike has gone about 300 miles.
