Alcohol sales pass in some counties, fail in Canadian

Posted: Updated:

There are two panhandle towns and one panhandle county who voted on whether to legalize alcohol sales.

Alcohol will likely be sold legally everywhere in Donley County. The measure is passed 597 to 501. The issue has been a heated source of the debate in Clarendon for the past few months, even prompting each side of the issue to post controversial signs in town.

Before tonight, only the city of Howardwick could legally sell alcohol. It's now legal county-wide.

That's not the case in Hemphill County. The county will remain completely dry after a proposal to allow alcohol sales in the city of Canadian fails 328 to 240.

Oldham County however, will have alcohol sales in the city of Vega. Voters approved the measure 175 to 78.

After tonight, Hemphill, Roberts, Collingsworth, Parmer and Bailey counties are the only completely dry counties in the panhandle.
