MIDLAND – A report of an explosive device led Midland ISD Police as well as Midland Police to an elementary school in Midland.
We're told police responded to a report of an explosive device at Milam Elementary on Monday morning.
Dr. Ryder Warren, Superintendent for Midland ISD, tells NewsWest 9 the device was outside of the front door.
Police immediately locked down the campus and evacuated all classes that were near the front door of the school as a safety precaution.
We're told that during the interview process with the kids from the school, a younger student said they brought the device from home. Midland Police were able to determine that the device was either a large firework or some kind of oilfield device. Police were able to take possession of the device and remove it from campus.
The lockdown and evacuation has since been lifted and Warren says that students will be given a note to take home to parents about the incident.
