MIDLAND - Midland Police have released the name of the man they believe stole money and assaulted a woman on Sunday.

Police are looking for 23-year-old Jonathon Cervantes.

Authorities say it started when police and fire departments were called out to a pedestrian accident in the 2800 block of north Main Street.

That's where they found 18-year-old Jorge Baltier lying in the street with severe injuries.

An investigation revealed that it was the result of a theft that happened in the 100 block of West Oak Avenue.

Police say Cervantes took $60 dollars and a cell phone that he was reportedly selling to a woman before pushing her and taking off in his car.

Baltier had tried to stop him by jumping on the hood of the car but was forced off.

Police believe the car Cervantes is driving is a 2004 4-door Cadillac STS with California license plate 4JUR369.
