MIDLAND - Authorities in Midland are searching for a man who stole a cell phone from a woman on Sunday.
It started when police and fire departments were called out to a pedestrian accident around 12:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of North Main Street.
That's where they found 18-year-old Jorge Baltier lying in the street.
He was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
An investigation revealed that the accident was the result of a theft that happened in the 100 block of West Oak Avenue.
The robber took $60 dollars and a cell phone that he was reportedly selling to the victim, pushed her then took off in a car.
Baltier had tried to stop the thief by jumping on the hood of the car but was forced off.
Police describe the man as a 5'7" tall, heavy-set Hispanic man in his mid-20s.
