Fire officials investigating cause of fire at Bushland High School Auditorium

Posted: Updated:

Bushland, Texas - Students at Bushland High School have now returned to class after a fire this morning forced everyone to evacuate.

Around 9:30 this morning fire alarms went off at Bushland High School, forcing students and teachers to evacuate the buildings.

Teachers and students were evacuated to the front and back of the school. The Potter County Fire Department, along with the Amarillo Fire Department were on scene. Everyone was able to go back inside a little before 11 o'clock.

Potter County officials tell us the small fire broke out on the roof of the school auditorium while crews were repairing damages from this year's hail storm. The fire was put out, but smoke traveled inside the building causing the alarms to go off.

Bushland ISD Superintendent, Don Wood, says students at the high school were prepared and acted accordingly. Just last week a fire drill was conducted at the school.

There were no injuries reported, and smoke damage is expected to be cleaned up today.
