Utah man pronounced dead after helicopter crashes in Cottle Co.

One man from Utah is dead following a helicopter crash in Cottle County Sunday afternoon.

DPS officials said 34-year-old helicopter pilot Joshua Fitts was flying a McDonnell-Douglas helicopter in a field east of CR493 and approximately two miles north of FM 1038.

The aircraft was hovering next to a power line stem pole attempting to connect to the power line when the rail rotor clipped a sheave, causing it to go down.

Fitts was pronounced dead on the scene.
