Equine rescue trail ride raises money to help neglected horses

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Area horses that have suffered abuse or neglect are easing back onto the road to recovery thanks to the Panhandle Safe Haven Equine Rescue.

Saturday morning, the group hosted a Fall Benefit Trail Ride at Los Cedros Ranch to raise money in order to allow them to continue caring for neglected horses. It was a "bring your own horse" trail ride, but many volunteers for the rescue also had the chance to ride Saturday, a reward for all of the hard work that goes into caring for these animals.

"This is a once in a lifetime shot maybe for the ladies that have been volunteering with me to get to ride like this, we just happened to have horses at this particular time that are rideable," said Terri Gammage, founder of the Panhandle Safe Haven Equine Rescue.

"This is just a really rare shot for them and they've earned it, they've worked hard."
