ODESSA - It's been four months since the spot became vacant but there's still no superintendent for the Ector County School District. However, ECISD officials tell NewsWest 9 they're moving in a promising direction.

School Board President, Ray Beaty, says this is a decision that can't be rushed.

"Not one person can be able to sit and write down a list of what it is that they're thinking the community is looking at," Beaty said.

Beaty is talking about the search for ECISD's newest leader. The search firm hired by the district just wrapped up community focus group studies.

They spoke with several people representing different groups in the community.

"Anything from business personnel to teachers to staff to students, pastors," Beaty said.

The firm gathered information on what those groups want to see in a superintendent.

Beaty said this is extremely important in narrowing down candidates.

"All of a sudden you have this list presented to you and you have this much more quality list to work from," Beaty said. "It was very encouraging what was able to be shared and the process is moving forward well."

Although the district is well into the school year, Beaty said the district is in good hands with Interim Superintendent Tom Crow.

"He brings a lot of good quality from other areas that he has been in the past with districts that have been very similar to ours," Beaty said.

In the meantime, Beaty said the board is remaining optimistic.

"We've got some very good opportunities headed this way so it's an encouraging time to see what they've got to offer," Beaty said.
