Increase in rodents and insects in area homes

Posted: Updated:

Pests are making their way inside area homes, keeping residents and exterminators on their toes.

They're guests you wouldn't typically want in your home, but this year keeping them out, may be more challenging.

"We've had a boom year for insects this year. We have been extremely busy," said Brad Turner, the owner of Lady-Bug Services.

Spiders, crickets and mice are just a few of the pests that local exterminators say they have seen more of, inside area homes. Once they make their way inside, these pests typically head to cool and dark, undisturbed places, like a closet, basement or garage.

But there are some things you can do, to help protect your house and your peace of mind. Trimming bushes and keeping grass short are some simple ways to prevent bugs from being close to your home.

Exterminators also suggest changing outside lights to yellow bulbs, instead of white, to help attract fewer insects.

Turner says the weather is to blame for the increase in critters. "This year with the rain that we've had, the warm temperatures that we've had, it's been the perfect mating season so all the insects are doing well this year," Turner said.
