BIG SPRING - A Big Spring teenager is fighting for her life after being shot in the head.

Police said the girl's boyfriend told them it happened during a drive-by but now he's accused of pulling the trigger.

"I have no sympathy for either one of them right now, we're pretty upset."

Strong words coming from a family member of 17-year-old Abigail Valencia, the teenager who was shot in the head with a .45 caliber handgun.

Police said her own boyfriend, 19-year-old Dakota Anguiano, is the one who pulled the trigger. 19-year-old David Westbrook is also facing charges after investigators said he tried to get rid of the gun.

Investigators are searching for a motive but right now there's no word on why the teen's boyfriend allegedly shot her.

"His initial report to the officers was they were walking in the area of Circle and Sycamore when a black Escalade came around the corner and one of the occupants in the Escalade fired a single shot that struck Abigail," Det. Sgt. Tony Everett, with the Big Spring Police Department, said. "At that time a friend of his was driving by and let him use his pick-up to take her to the hospital."

But as police questioned Anguiano and witnesses, his story didn't add up. It turns out, the shooting actually happened at this home and Abigail wasn't alone.

"She had her little baby with her, her two-year-old little girl," the family member, who didn't want to be identified, said.

We're told the couple had just moved in that day.

"For something like that to happen to one of us is too close to home," the family member said. "It hurts alot and we're not gonna be getting over it anytime soon."

Abigail is in critical condition in a Lubbock hospital. Her family said they're heartbroken and praying for a miracle.

"It's not fair for her child," the family member said. "Violence like this is never the answer."
