A Fort Stockton man, who was charged in the stabbing death of his girlfriend last year, has taken a plea deal.

The case got a lot of public attention and was set to start in Brewster County last week.

However, 44-year-old Saul Silvas took a plea deal and will now have to spend the next 20 years behind bars for the crime.

The plea agreement included his acknowledgement that a deadly weapon was used in the murder.

Silvas was originally charged with the murder of 22-year-old Brittany Cartwright last January.
