MIDLAND COUNTY - One man is dead and another is behind bars following an early morning accident in Midland County.
We're told the accident happened near the Stripes convenience store on Rankin Highway just before 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
Midland Police tell NewsWest 9, a Chevy pickup, driven by 17-year-old Fernando Alvarado, was leaving the Stripes convenience store to turn onto Rankin Highway when the pickup was hit from behind by a Cadillac Escalade. The driver of the Escalade was ejected from the vehicle. We're told the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The driver of the Escalade, 27-year-old Noah Flemister, was taken to the hospital where he later died.
We're told the Chevy pickup fled the scene of the accident and Alvarado fled on foot.
Alvarado was later located by police in the 900 block of South Weatherford Street.
Alvarado has been arrested and charged with failure to stop and render aid.
The accident is still under investigation.
