Dead baby found at Houston-area thrift store

Posted: Updated:

WEBSTER, Texas (AP) - A baby has been found dead in a trash container at a Houston-area thrift store and investigators are trying to determine who left the newborn with the garbage.

Webster police on Sunday did not immediately update the investigation into the child's death or the search for the mother.

The baby was found Friday night in a garbage container in a bathroom at a Goodwill Industries International, Inc. store in Webster, about 15 miles southeast of Houston. A worker who was cleaning the bathroom noticed blood on the floor and then discovered the newborn's body in the trash.

Autopsy results are pending. Further details on the child weren't immediately released.

A spokeswoman for Goodwill declined comment.
