MIDLAND- A trailer carrying a construction digger hit the overpass at County Road 1150 and Interstate 20 on Saturday. The truck carrying the digger was headed westbound on I-20 when it struck the overpass.
The driver of the truck was injured but Midland County Sheriff's Department told NewsWest 9 he is in stable condition.
Law enforcement also said that falling debris from the overpass hit a truck behind the digger and shattered the windshield. That driver did not have any injuries.
NewsWest 9 talked to the Texas Department of Transportation who gave more information.
"(We) had an oversized load come through. He didn't have his tractor loaded correctly and took out two of the beams," Chad Windham, Area Engineer for TXDOT, said.
The Sheriffs office said the digger came up about six feet over the permitted height to tow.
"Right now the bridge will be closed until we can make repairs. We'll have structural engineers out of Austin come down and make and evaluation on it," Windham said.
