CARLSBAD, N.M. - A tragic death in Carlsbad. Police say a 15-year-old boy shot his 12-year-old cousin dead.
The shooting happened Wednesday morning at a home on North Olive Street.
Police say the teen pointed the gun at the 12-year-old after the boy pointed a toy pistol at him.
He told officers he thought he cleared the gun when he pulled the trigger.
The 12-year-old was shot in stomach area.
Police say the teen and his sister were in the front yard when officers arrived.
They told officers the boy was shot in a drive-by.
However, after questioning, the offers say the 15-year-old admitted to shooting his cousin accidentally.
