MARTIN COUNTY- When you see those flashing red and blue lights, it's always a good idea to pull over. According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, one man decided against that this weekend and landed himself behind bars.
"Starting off this holiday weekend, we did have quite a bit of activity on our roadways. We've had some pursuits and DUI's," Martin County Sheriff, John Woodward, said.
On Sunday, Kevin Dewayne Rose tried to outrun deputies, but that landed him in jail, facing a slew of charges.
"Evading, DWI and resisting arrest," Sheriff Woodward said.
Deputies tried to pull Rose over by Circle 6 Ranch on Highway 137 but he just kept on driving. Once he stopped, Rose didn't go easy. The sheriff said he was aggressive with the arresting deputy.
"He refused to comply with officers and their requests," he said.
Sheriff Woodward said if Rose had just pulled over, he wouldn't be in such a big mess.
"Officers are very willing to work with individuals, blend common sense on traffic stops. We will do the best we can to make sure people get home safe," he told NewsWest 9.
Holiday weekends tend to see more patrols on the roads, looking for drivers who could be a danger to themselves and others.
"We're just really urging people, for the sake of themselves and innocent folks out there, to just be as safe as they can," Woodward said.
