ODESSA - It seems to be a growing trend; walking into a convenience store, grabbing some lottery tickets and bolting. One man in Odessa did just that but what he didn't know is those tickets are now useless and the entire thing was caught on camera.

"It's about $250 worth of lottery tickets that he took and we need to stop it. We just need to stop it," Susan Rogers with Odessa Crime Stoppers, said.

The man, walked into the Kent Kwik on Eastridge in Odessa, distracted the clerk and walked off with the tickets.

"The clerk doesn't hand them to him, he puts them off to the side but when the clerk turns around to get something else, he reaches for him and he's out the door," she said.

Rogers said this may seem petty but it could lead to bigger offenses.

"This kind of crime leads to bigger things. I mean they were brazen enough to walk in there and do that," Rogers said.

Rogers says she's not sure if the recent surge in these types of theft are related or not.

"You can watch these videos over and over again and they're doing exactly the same thing. They ask for the tickets then something else like a carton of cigarettes to distract the clerk. In every case I believe we've shown, they just stroll right out of the store with the ticket," she said.

The man is believed to be in his late-20's to mid-30's. A customer saw the man after the incident and has reason to believe he left in a red Dodge pickup.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Odessa Crimestoppers at 333-TIPS. Any information leading to an arrest could earn you a cash reward. All callers will remain anonymous.
