Welcome to Perryton

Perryton, TX - Just by the looks of driving up and down main street, anyone can see there's no shortage of business or projects happening in Perryton.

Depending on where you're from some might say small towns like Perryton are "in the middle on nowhere".

And while that may be true to some extent, it's that remoteness that's given this small community its own self-reliant attitude.

Before the interstates, semi trucks and cars, it wasn't a road that brought people to Perryton, Texas, it was the railroad.

Founded back in 1909, the city was named after a man named George Perry who fought in the civil war.

Now, just more than 9,000 people call this community home.

Also known as Wheatheart of the Nation, Perryton is one of state's top wheat producers, a huge economic driver for the town.

Thanks to that, the towns pork production and area oil and gas operations... Perryton's economy hasn't been left wanting.

There's no shortage of projects and plans in Perryton with the recent completion of their brand new water park.

A unique Museum of the Plains cataloging the area's history, a branch of Frank Phillips College, a renovation of the old junior high school, plus a main street project that started years ago.

A thriving community that's due in part to its determination to depend on itself.

Perryton does have one more small claim to fame, if you've ever read and enjoyed the books "Hank the Cow Dog", you can thank this small town for the inspiration.

The author of Hank the Cow Dog series, John R. Erickson is a Perryton native.
