The Texas State Trapshooting Championship rounded out a week of competitive shooting out at the Amarillo Gun Club.

More than 1,000 shooters cycled through the club and competition since Tuesday, July 2, of this past week and about 250 competed Sunday. Six months of planning went into hosting this event here in Amarillo. The hundreds of shooters came from some 25 different states all over the country, al to compete in this shoot, one of the largest in the nation.

"The Texas State Trap Shoot is probably one of the largest in the United States and because of our location we get the draw from so many states that are around us so everybody looks forward to coming to Texas," said Steve Camarata, President of the Board of Directors for the Amarillo Gun Club.

Organizers say they go through about 500,000 targets during a week long event like this one, about 200-300 per day, per shooter.
