BIG SPRING - Big Spring Police arrested a man on Monday morning on child neglect charges.
According to Interim Police Chief Chad Williams, officers were called out to a home in the 400 block of Valley. A witness had notified police of a young child they saw wondering near the street naked and apparently was bleeding.
Police arrived and contacted a male resident at the house near where the child had been seen. After the interview it was determined that 27-year-old Robert Adam Mata was the father of the child and had left the three year old boy unsupervised and allowed him to wonder outside the house and unclothed.
The child had subsequently received an injury to his foot.
Police arrested the man and charged him with Abandoning / Endangering A Child, Neglect and he was booked into the Howard County Jail.
The three year old boy was treated for a minor injury to his foot and released into the custody of his mother, who was not living at the same residence as the suspect.
CPS was contacted and are investigating the incident.
