Hundreds of cyclists 'Ride the Rim' to help fight MS

Posted: Updated:

Nearly 250 cyclists pedaled for more than 100 miles all day Saturday in support of those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis, or MS.

Saturday morning, Bike MS kicked off it's "Ride the Rim" event. Those cyclists started at Buffalo Sports Park in Canyon, rode through the West Texas A&M University Campus, around town and then through Palo Duro Canyon.

These dedicated bikers weren't stopping at 100 miles though, they'll continued 'Riding the Rim" Sunday as well, to help raise money and awareness to help fight multiple sclerosis.

"We are also taking steps to help people who have MS today," said April Brownlee, Sr. Development Manager for Bike MS. "We can't cure MS right now so we are always working to do things to make their lives better today. So we have a direct financial assistance program to help offset the outrageous cost of this disease, it costs about $70,000 per person, per year"

So far this year, the group has raised about $130,000 to support the some 800 people in our area suffering from MS.
