ODESSA - It's a story we all need to pay close attention to. A local man lost his debit card and it was picked up by strangers, who instead of being good Samaritans, they went on a shopping spree. Police say this type of scenario is happening way too often in Odessa.
The duo that are accused of using that debit card and purchasing numerous items that totaled over $800.
"It was a lot that they got and we're seeing alot of credit card abuse these days. So it's really important to keep up with your card," Odessa Crime Stoppers Director, Susan Rogers, said. "A young man lost his debit card and these two people apparently found it because they're using it at a local store."
Surveillance video shows a man placing several items, such as bottles of water and soft drinks, on the cashier counter and charging it with the stolen card. All of this went down at the Walgreens located off West County Road in Odessa. The other person, accused in taking part of this crime isn't shown in the video at the cash register, but cameras did catch her as she was walking into the store.
"She looks to be in her 30's. He's apparently a Tony Romo fan, cause he's decked out in Dallas Cowboys stuff," Rogers said.
Rogers says once they're caught they will be slapped with a state jail felony for credit card abuse. She says this case is a reminder for everyone.
"If it (card) gets lost or stolen, you need to report that immediately," Rogers said.
Police say the woman in the video has some sort of tattoo on the right side of her neck. If you recognize either of the individuals and know where they might be you can give Odessa Crime Stoppers a call at 333-TIPS.
