MIDLAND COUNTY - A Father's Day barbeque turned deadly when 52-year-old Jimmy Conway was shot and killed by his neighbor, Daniel Easterling, at an RV park in Midland County.

Authorities said after the shooting, Easterling took off and is still on the run. Sheriff Gary Painter said a warrant has been issued for Easterling's arrest and all of West Texas law enforcement is on the lookout.

"Every law enforcement agency in region 4, which is West Texas," he said.

NewsWest 9 went to the RV park. Residents declined to speak on camera, but according to them, Conway and Easterling were friendly and only lived a few RV's away from each other. Residents also said the two had spent the day cooking out and drinking before things turned violent.

"There was a dispute. Evidently a lot of people gathered, so there were several witnesses, but alcohol seems to be the root of the whole deal," Painter said.

Residents said after the shooting, Easterling ran over a tractor and plowed into a fence.

"He tore up a vehicle on the way out, his vehicle. We've got it impounded, we're conducting a search on it," Painter said.

He also said Easterling could be turning himself in soon.

"We had a contact from an attorney, here in Midland, this morning, asking what the charges were, what the bond was; and stated that he would be turning himself in, so we're still waiting on him," Painter said.

Anyone helping Easterling could face jail time as well.

"We are, very seriously, looking at filing charges on anyone who is assisting. We've got the names of several individuals right now," he said.

Easterling is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information on his whereabouts, call the Midland County Sheriff's office at 432-688-4600.
