ALPINE - The former finance director for the City of Alpine is out of jail.
Ricky Chavez is accused of taking the city's money and using it for himself and his family.
Chavez has been charged with theft by a public servant and tampering with government records.
According to the Alpine Avalanche, Chavez posted a $5,000 bond.
The Texas Rangers have been investigating the case.
Officials say he used the cash to take classes at Sul Ross State University, purchased computers for his family and to buy car parts.
We're told he did confess to some of the offenses.
The case will go before a grand jury in the future.
Chavez had recently been fired amid the financial allegations.
