MIDLAND – One motorcyclist is dead following an accident in Midland on Saturday night.
Officials tell NewsWest 9 that a Dodge Durango, driven by 30-year-old Damien Duron of San Angelo, was headed east on Front Street when they were attempting to turn left into the Kent Kwik.
That's when the Durango hit a motorcycle, driven by 44-year-old Jesus Villanueva-Benavides, going west on Front Street. The two collided and the motorcycle caught fire upon impact.
Benavides was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the accident, Duron fled the scene on foot, leaving behind a 13-year-old passenger in the Durango. Duron was apprehended a few minutes later in the 700 block of North Tilden Street.
Duron was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation into the accident continues.
