Trapshoot competition draws big bucks for Amarillo economy

Trapshooters from all over the region were in Amarillo this weekend for the Texas Trapshooters Association Zone One Championship.

More than 120 shooters were here for the competition, great news for the Amarillo economy, according to officials with the association. In fact, thanks to this weekend and other upcoming shoots including the state shoot in July, Amarillo will see about one million dollars infused into it's economy. Something organizers say these shoots have been doing for years.

"Historically, we've had some of the best shooters in the world come through Amarillo," said Roger Cox, President of the Texas Trapshooters Association. "We'll have some of the world's best shooters, for example, here in JUly for the state shoot. We have some of the region's best shooters here this weekend but Amarillo has always been a magnet for trapshooting throughout the United States."

This weekend's competition was hosted out at the Amarillo Gun Club, which was created some 50 years ago.
