MIDLAND COUNTY - The eastbound lanes of Interstate 20 have been reopened after a fatal accident in Midland County.
The accident happened at the intersection of Interstate 20 and Rankin Highway, on the overpass around 9:45 a.m. Friday morning.
Sara Higgins with the City of Midland tells NewsWest 9 that they were working two minor accidents near where the fatal accident happened. An SUV was breaking and was hit by an 18 wheeler causing the SUV to flip over. After that collision, the 18-wheeler struck a Pontiac on the drivers side.
The driver of the Pontiac, 33-year-old Greta Caldwell, was pronounced dead on the scene. Passengers from the SUV and Pontiac were transported to the hospital, however, their conditions are unknown.
TXDOT officials tell NewsWest 9, Interstate 20 eastbound is expected to be back open around 6 p.m. Friday evening.
