UPDATED: Two Killed in Accident in Gardendale, Victims Names Released

GARDENDALE - Two people are dead following an afternoon accident in Gardendale.

The accident happened at the intersection of Hollyhock and Goldenrod.

DPS Officials tell NewsWest 9, a Dodge truck, driven by 52-year-old Bobby Childress, Jr. of Gardendale, was traveling southbound on Hollyhock when the truck was hit by a 2013 Toyota, driven by 30-year-old Vanessa Burleson of Odessa, who was traveling westbound on Goldenrod, failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign.

Burleson was pronounced dead at the scene and Childress was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An Aerocare helicopter was also called out to the scene but was unable to get there due to the flying dust in the area.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, Burleson was not wearing a seatbelt, however, Childress was wearing a seatbelt.
