HOBBS, N.M. - City commissioners in Hobbs are giving officers incentives to attract and keep them on the job.
The incentives will go to officers who are bilingual or who volunteer for their SWAT team.
They will now get $1,500 a year in bonuses.
Officials are hoping the increase, along with a jump in starting pay for new cops, will help them bring in more people.
The new bonuses will also be given to city staff workers that can pass a bilingual certification test.
