UTPB Buildings Evacuated After "Suspicious Package" Report in Odessa

ODESSA - A suspicious package sent students and faculty running on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials received a call about the suspicious package on the second floor of the Mesa building on the campus of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa.

Officials tell NewsWest 9, an unattended black briefcase was found in the building.

UTPB Officials sent out a "Falcon Alert" advising students and faculty to evacuate the building and later sent out another alert advising students to evacuate buildings surrounding the Mesa building.

Odessa Police, along with the Odessa Police Bomb Squad, were called to the scene.

After investigation, officials determined there was no threat found due to the briefcase.

The Gym, student activities center, library and computer science buildings have been reopened. The Mesa building, however, will be closed until 8 a.m. Thursday morning. 

Classes will resume on Thursday morning.
